The West End Poets Weekend is held annually for the purpose of providing a connection between the significant poetry talent that is deeply rooted in our community and the many poetry enthusiasts that reside in the Triangle area. The weekend event wishes to recognize and reward emerging talent as well. Most importantly, The West End Poets Weekend aims to bring together all ages to read, hear and talk about the art of poetry. YOUR INPUT IS WELCOME: As for the next WEST END POETS WEEKEND - it will be held the weekend of October 11th, 2008 If the poetic words of others can inspire or transform you- then, the WEST END POETS WEEKEND is the event for you.

2007 POETS and PERFORMERS: The Town of Carrboro welcomed a new Poet Laureate during the 2007 event. From a group of eleven applicants, Neil McTighe was selected for his poem 'BLACK AND WHITE'.

One goal of the Poetry Alive program is our desire to provide an outlet for poets to introduce themselves and their writings, as well as to inform the public of local poetry events and activities. Our poetry newsletter -'West End Poetry' is issued bi-monthly, and covers the poets from this area. For a copy of the previous newsletters: We welcome input, and suggestions from our readers. |
The Poetry Alive series consist of year round programs that will feature a variety of events; ranging from readings by a number of local poets, workshops for all ages, to a two day event in October called "West End Poets' Weekend".

Open Mic Night
Join Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department and the Open Eye Cafe This is a night where poets can engage with others and share the power and diversity of poetry. This events provides a venue for people to celebrate, share, encourage, write, read, and listen to poetry.
Junior Open Mic Calling all teen poets from beginners to advanced! Here's your opportunity to share your poems with other teens and gain some helpful writing tips from award-winning poet Shirlette Ammomns. Ms. Ammons has published a collection of poetry entitled, Stumphole Aunthology of Bakwoods Blood and has recieved accolades from well known poet Nikki Giovanni and writer Rebecca Walker.
